Company, as we have every prospect of inaugurating a good and

steady business with Canada if we can obtain the benefit of the

preferential tariff, and is also of importance to the Colony

itself, as there must be many other industries in Hongkong

· besides ours which would benefit by the preferential tariff.

As the Straits Settlements have already been given the benefit

of the preference, it does not seem to us that there can be any

special objection to this Colony's producès, and we therefore

venture to hope that this suggestion wi11 receive your support

and that application may be made through the proper channel to

the Government of Canada to have Hongkong xxxxy included among

those British Colonies admitted to the benefit of the Preferen-

-tial Tariff.
